DISCOVER KABE Vol.8

After spending some time exploring Kabe’s “old road” over the summer I decided to take a ride along the “new road” to see what I could discover. On the face of it, you might think there is little of interest along a busy thoroughfare like this. However, moving slowly, with curious eyes you’ll be surprised at what you discover, and, with a little imagination, you may even find drama in the most mundane scenes.

Starting in the north and working my way south first notice this large property with a beautifully ended garden. It is a very traditional Japanese residence, overlooked by a tower that looks like something from the set of a 1950s science fiction TV show. Kabe’s Spaceworld?

As a vegetarian who hasn’t eaten meat since I was a teenager, I am not particularly interested in yaki-niku restaurants.

I am, however, fascinated by the use of smiling animals to promote their own deliciousness.

Further along, I encountered something that released a flood of memories; the very same model of my first scooter that my parents bought for me from a supermarket. It was lovely to see “Tomos” once again!

Even along this busy road, one finds flashes of artistry.

Even the ham here is romantic!

Plus I love the Fukutome Ham font – fantastic against the green of the hills in the background. I was disappointed I couldn’t find Fukukome Castle though.

I like to think Nakashima-san now has time for singing karaoke with friends in their life after hair.

I’ve been sharing “my Kabe” here over the past few months. Why not show me yours by using the #discoverkabe hashtag. I’m looking forward to seeing Kabe through your eyes.
