DISCOVER KABE vol03

As you wander along the Kabe Kaido, the 153 year old Kyokuho sake brewery is hard to miss. Just as I was peering through the door, a lovely lady appeared and invited me in for a tour. I’m fascinated by sake and the people who devote their lives to making it. Plus sake breweries are made for Instagram.

Step off the road and it’s like you’ve stepped back in time into a space that one imagines looked much the same a century ago.

And what a door it is!

Sake breweries are also like nature reserves. Here is one of several swallow nests tucked under the ceiling. The eggs apparently attract hungry snakes too!

Wares on display.

Sake is made in the winter, but staff were hard at work preparing this year’s batch of umeshu plum liqueur which will be ready in the autumn.
