DISCOVER KABE vol06

 

行く先々で秋の気配が至るところに。

With signs of autumn all around

向かった先はあき亀山駅から徒歩6分ほど

丘を少し登ったところにある『Cafe du Haven』

A short 6min walk uphill from Aki-kameyama Station at the end of the Kabe Line lies Cafe du Haven.

お昼過ぎに入ると店内はお客さんでいっぱい。

We had missed lunch, but the place was full of happy-looking customers.

お目当てはやっぱりとろふわフレンチトーストでしょうか。

ふわっふわでとても美味しくいただきました。

It goes almost without saying that I went for the French Toast.

イギリス出身のポールは、トーストにツナがのったツナメルトを注文。

（大のツナファンである上に、イギリスの実家では２０分毎にトースターの焼きあがる音が響いているらしい。）

Paul opted for the thick-cut tuna melt.

(More than a tuna fan, Paul is a toast lover – he says that you’ll hear the sound of  bread popping out of the toaster every 20 minutes or so at his family home back in the UK.)

そしてコーヒー中毒者のポールには嬉しい『ストロングコーヒー』がドリンクメニューに

A self-confessed “coffee addict”, Paul obviously chose “Strong Coffee” from the drinks menu.

このような表記のメニューもなかなかないので、なぜだろうと不思議に思い、

It’s not common to see regular and strong coffee on a the menu at a country cafe Japan

お話を伺うと、オーナーはお父様がアメリカの方。

And on enquiry it turned out that the owner’s dad is American.

そして、お名前はポールのミドルネームと同じ　ジョージさん　でした！

Not only that, but the owner’s name “George” is the same as Paul’s middle name!

お店を始められてまだ一年半ほどで、少しずつ良いお店にしていきたいとおっしゃっていました。

First name George took over the cafe about a year and a half ago and has been working hard to create a pleasant space with an interesting menu.

ポールも、可部にはいつも何かとご縁があるような気がします。

It seems like every time we come to Kabe, Paul seems to have some kind of connection.

丘の中腹にあり眺めも良く、緑がいっぱいで一息つくにはとても心地よい場所でした。

中島駅からは、あき亀山駅まで可部線でわずか8分。

学校帰りや休日に気軽に行けていいですね。

The view over the rice fields and out to the trees on the hillside from this hillside cafe is lovely and Cafe du Haven is a great place to treat yourself to a nice little break. 

Only 8 minutes on the train from Nakashima Station, why not pay a visit after classes or on a day off?
